KCMUCo welcomes you all to the 1st Annual Scientific Conference and 1st East African Conference in Systems Immunology 2023 to be held at the Foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro 6th – 7th November 2023
Introduction
Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College (KCMUCo) is found at the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro Kilimanjaro region in the United Republic of Tanzania. Conference Overview
The conference will bring on board internationally renowned immunologists as keynote speakers from over 5 countries in Africa Europe and US. Participants will be able to explore cutting-edge research,
breakthroughs, and advancements in systems immunology. It will be an excellent opportunity to engage with leading experts and contribute to the exciting progress in understanding the complexities of the immune system. Don’t miss this pivotal event in Kilimanjaro, Tanzania.

The conference will cover both communicable and non-communicable diseases with a focus on immunology. Emphasis will be on the need for a comprehensive approach to immunology, exploring how diverse factors such as genetics, environment, and lifestyle influence immune responses and disease outcomes worldwide. Different presentations from world-renowned keynote speakers and from conference participants will shed light on strategies for prevention, intervention, and public health policies contributing to a holistic understanding of the body’s immune system and its role in both communicable and non-communicable diseases.

Conference Dates & Location
The conference will take place on 6th – 7th November 2023
The conference will take place at WeruWeru River Lodge on the outskirts of the city of Moshi and only 25 km from the Kilimanjaro International Airport. WeruWeru River Lodge is a 5-star tourist hotel that offers a spectacular location and exceptional comfort for this type of conference. Surrounded by coffee plantations and being more than 1000mts above sea level with a glamorous view of Mount Kilimanjaro the location will make the conference not only enjoyable but mind refreshing.
Registration fee and what it covers

Travel Arrangements Airport Pick-up
Taxes are available throughout at the airport to shuttle passengers at an estimated cost of $30 to Moshi City Centre. However, airline shuttles are available at a much cheaper rate of only TZS 10,000 but mostly these shuttles operate depending on flight schedules for Air Tanzania & Precision Air. Some Hotels including WeruWeru River Lodge also arrange for airport pick-up for travelers residing at their hotels.
Daily shuttle to the conference
KCMUCo will arrange for a daily shuttle of participants to & from the conference venue, however, a few designated locations will be used to pick up and drop off participants as indicated below:

Participants will be picked up from these locations starting at 7:30 am and driven back after the conference.

Whether the forecast of Moshi as of November 2023
Moshi is 888 m above sea level and located at 3.35° S 37.33° E. Despite its proximity to the equator, weather in Moshi is influenced by tropical wet and dry climates. All average monthly temperature is greater than 18°C. November is the last month of spring with the average maximum daytime temperature fluctuating between 17°C. and 31°C and the amount of rain is high with an average of 110 mm. Therefore, visitors should plan on bringing a waterproof jacket or umbrella since is likely to often raining, and light clothes because it can be very warm or even hot.

Mihai Netea is a leading international scientist in the areas of inflammations, immunology and infectious diseases.

Prof. Leo Joosten
Professor of experimental medicine at the Department of Internal Medicine, Radboud University.
He is a pathobiologist, Leo Joosten is interested in host defense mechanisms driven by pathogenic microorganisms that result in chronic inflammation.

Dr. Quirijn de Mast

Quirijn de Mast is an internist-infectious diseases specialist and researcher with special expertise in global health, immunology and (tropical) infectious diseases.

Within the CIMI-Paris, Delphine Sauce is leading the team “Pathogenesis of viral infections and Immune aging” whose aims are to understand the parallel between chronic viral infections and immune aging in humans.

Dr. Tal Pacht

Postdoc research fellow, Limes Institute, University of Bonn, Germany. Dr PACHT specializes in the field of immunometabolism with expertise in transcriptome generation and analysis and metabolomics data analysis and multi-omics analysis.

Dr. Thomas Ulas
Postdoctoral Researcher and a Lead of PRECISE bioinformatics at The University of Bonn.
He is skilled in Bioinformatics, Computational Genomics, and RNAseq, with a strong research professional focused on the Genome-based systems biology approach.

Prof. Erasto Mbugi.
Professor of Applied Biomedicine.
He is an expert in biochemistry and nutritional immunology especially in micronutrients and child health. His research area focuses on the following Nutritional Immunology.

Dr. Godfrey Temba
Expert in Immunity, Inflammation and Metabolism.
He has a vast experience in designing and conducting multi-omics studies especially those studies which focus on the role of dietary interventions (plant-based and fermented foods) in immune response.

Prof. Jaffu Chilongola
Associate Professor of Medical Biochemistry and Immunology.
. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in molecular genetics (severe pediatric malaria), Jaffu has worked with the KCMUCo as a lecturer of medical biochemistry and immunology as well as a senior research scientist since 2006.
