PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES AND PHILOSOPHY
- Discuss Essential principles and techniques of history taking and examination of the skin, visible mucous membranes, genito-urinary tract, the eye and neighbouring structures
- Impart skills on the basic investigation of venous and lymphatic systems including physical examination
- Build Skills on palpation of peripheral nerves with sensory and voluntary muscle function test
- Build competencies on Genetic counselling on the pattern of inheritance and recurrence risk
- Build skills on Staining procedures and cultures for microbes (e.g. fungi, bacteria)
- Build competencies on Diagnostic skin procedures, such as microscopic analysis of biological specimens (e.g. fungal and ectoparasitic scrapings, Tzank preparations, dark-field illumination, ancho-snips, slit skin smears for AFBs)
- Build skills in providing local and regional anaesthesia and dermatological surgeries
EXIT LEVELS AVAILABLE WITH RESPECT TO UQF DESCRIPTION
Master degree in Dermato-Venereology (M.MED- Dermato-Venereology) with UQF 9
There will be only one final exit in this programme. Candidate will exit at UQF 9 and will be awarded an MMed Dermato-Venereology degree, after passing all prescribed courses. The MMed will be conferred to candidates who meet all the KCMU-Co of the Tumaini University Makumira requirements in not more than 5 years after their admission to Mmed Dermato-Venereology programme.
3.5 PROGRAMME EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES AND ITS ASSOCIATED TEACHING/LEARNING ACTIVITIES AND ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
At the end of the programme the candidate will be able to
- Provide patient care that is effective and suitable for the promotion of health, prevention of maladies, and treatment of disease according to the available resources.
- Demonstrate sufficient knowledge in dermato-venereology to be able to apply that knowledge to patient care and mentor junior doctors.
- Use his or her interpersonal and organizational skills to manage a clinical team.
- Conduct research and disseminate results effectively with the aim to improve patient care practices.
- Demonstrate behaviors that show maturity in ethical practices, professional development, respect to vulnerable groups, and a responsible attitude towards work and their patients.
